Birds on the Roof

What a lovely environment we must be creating here at Culloden Academy when birds and animals decide to make us their home.

These Oyster Catchers live on the roof of the swimming pool and this is the third year in a row that they've decided to bring up their chicks here.

Our New Wind Turbine...

So we now have a fantastic new form of renewable energy coming to Culloden Academy. Adding to our fantastic Solar Panels that are already creating loads of electricity for the school, we now have delivery of our wind turbine. It's huge and it's going to be spinning very soon bringing us even more brilliantly renewable energy. The Windmill took the whole day to install but I've condensed most of the process into this two minute video! Check it out...

Lovely Eco Art Works...

Just thought I'd add some pictures of the lovely pieces of art that you can see in the display cabinet near the reception window and the social area. The work has all been created by students working in our amazing Art Department. They all are all based around a Re-Cycle theme and are all made from found and recycled materials. If you haven't had a look at the work yet, go over and check it out.

Getting our paper recycling sorted...

The Eco-committee have made a commitment to make sure that all paper is recycled properly throughout the coming year. We know that lots of classrooms have a facility for recycling but the Eco-committee have noticed that this is not the case in every classroom.

We have spoken to Mr Dowds and he has agreed to make sure that a recycled paper bin will be provided for every classroom that needs one, so members of the committee are in the process of auditing exactly how many we need so that we can place an order.

Members of the Eco-committee have also kindly offered to draw up a rota for collection of the paper to place it into the large outside recycling bins.

If you have waste paper that can be recycled instead of thrown away, please try to make sure it is put into a recycling bin - either in your classroom, in another classroom or outside in the big blue recycling bin.

Eco Committee

The Eco Committee here at Culloden Academy will be meeting next week to discuss a range of ideas that will help us to make our school a greener place to live and learn.

At our last meeting we discussed current initiatives like our amazing new solar panels as well as possible new eco projects around the school from plants in the glass entrance area by the front sliding doors to recycled bottle mosaic windows. At our next meeting we'll be discussing our new ideas and projects in more detail and working out ways of getting them up and running.

If you are interested in joining the eco commitee come and speak with Mr Hoskins or Mr Airie or look out for the meeting times in the daily notices and come along to a meeting to see what it's all about.

At the moment, as part of our ongoing aims for achieving our Eco Schools Scotland standards, we're also looking for someone from outside of the school who might be interested in getting involved with the Eco Committee.

If your Parents might be interested in helping your school to become more environmentally conscious and they might have time to come along to eco commitee meetings from time to time then please let us know...
